Quality Policy
1. Department of Energy Systems – University of Thessaly
The Department of Energy Systems is committed to the ongoing assurance and continuous improvement of the quality of its educational, research, and administrative work, within the framework of the mission and strategy of the University of Thessaly. The Quality Policy of the academic unit is fully harmonized with the Institution’s Quality Policy and is implemented within the framework of the certified Internal Quality Assurance System (IQAS), in accordance with the principles and guidelines of HAHE (National Higher Education Authority).
2. Objectives of the Quality Policy
The primary objective of the Department’s Quality Policy is the provision of high-level undergraduate education in the field of energy systems, with clear learning outcomes, scientific documentation, and social relevance. Specifically, the quality policy aims at:
- the continuous upgrading of the Undergraduate Curriculum (UC),
- ensuring the quality and effectiveness of teaching,
- connecting the educational process with modern scientific knowledge and research,
- transparency, documentation, and accountability of academic processes,
- improving the student experience and support services.
3. Quality of the Educational Process
The Department’s Undergraduate Curriculum is designed, implemented, and evaluated based on clearly defined learning outcomes that align with the European and National Higher Education Qualifications Frameworks. Teaching quality is ensured through:
- the alignment of learning outcomes, teaching activities, and assessment methods,
- the use of appropriate and modern pedagogical methods,
- transparency in student assessment criteria,
- regular course and instructor evaluations by students.
4. Research Activity and Connection with Teaching
The Department promotes the scientific and research activity of faculty members and encourages the integration of teaching with research by incorporating modern scientific outcomes into course content and conducting thesis projects with a scientific and applied orientation.
5. Administrative Support and Transparency
The Quality Policy includes the continuous improvement of administrative processes that support the operation of the Undergraduate Curriculum. Emphasis is placed on documentation, electronic data management, clear allocation of responsibilities, and transparency in decision-making, in cooperation with the competent services of the Institution.
6. Equality, Inclusion, and Academic Ethics
The Department fully adopts the principles of equality, non-discrimination, and respect for diversity, as reflected in the Charter and Regulations of the University of Thessaly. No form of discrimination or harassment is tolerated, and a safe, inclusive, and ethically sound academic learning and working environment is ensured.
7. Mechanisms for Quality Assurance and Improvement
The implementation of the Quality Policy is supported by:
- the operation of the Department’s Internal Evaluation Team (OMEA),
- the collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data (student evaluations, performance indicators, annual reports),
- cooperation with the Institution’s Quality Assurance Unit (MODIP),
- the annual internal evaluation and review of the Undergraduate Curriculum.
The evaluation results are utilized to formulate targeted improvement actions, link with quality targets, and continuously upgrade the Curriculum.
8. Relationship with the Labor Market
The Quality Policy takes into account developments in the energy sector and the needs of the labor market. Although the Undergraduate Curriculum does not include a mandatory institutionalized internship, the Department encourages students to seek related experiences and professional development activities independently, within the framework of the opportunities offered by the broader academic and professional environment.
